Jennifer Lawrence Invited to Join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Jennifer Lawrence was among 177 others who were invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
One of the most glorious annual rites of Hollywood passage commenced today as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended invitations to 177 esteemed film professionals.
The Academy was originally created to mediate labor disputes and improve the industry’s image, and membership into the organization would only be open to people involved in one of the five branches of the industry: actors, directors, writers, technicians, and producers.

The first president of The Academy, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., added an activity of bestowing “awards of merit for distinctive achievement.”  So the tradition of members nominating and voting on winners gradually became what we know today as The Academy Awards, also knows as The Oscars.

This is quite an honor for Jennifer, seeing how she is new on the Hollywood scene, but after her magnificent performance in Winter's Bone, which earned her a nomination for Best Actress, she is clearly well respected among her peers.

  3. Awesome and I am waiting very impatiently to for the movie in 2012 so that I can see her rock as Katniss! Of course I'm curious about how others will portray the roles as well but since EW had that cover, I'm getting more and more excited.
