Fans React to 'Hunger Games' Rue & Thresh Casting Choices

With the announcements on casting coming from Lionsgate over the past few days, it was no surprise that The Hunger Games Community would be buzzing with all sorts of opinions and reactions. Reelz Channel reached out to several fansites to get responses to the casting of Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg.

Here's what The Hob admins and a few of our readers had to say:
The Hob
It's refreshing to see such positive feedback with this casting! I think the fact that they are not as well known is great, no room for judgement. They seem to to fill the roles perfectly, looks-wise!!
Megan S. (Admin) Maumee, OH
I think Amandla Stenberg has a such a sweet smile. It makes you want to do nice things for her, so I can see Katniss going out of her way for Rue in the movie. And Dayo Okeniyi looks tough, which is perfect for the role of Thresh.
Jess M. (Admin) Jackson, NJ
They did a great job with these two!!! They both look exactly as I picture them.
Amy O. (Reader) Riverdale, UT
These two look seemingly perfect, she's sweet and pretty, he's handsome but also has an underlying air that says he can be a bit formidable. I am so glad they went with relative unknowns for these characters!
Rebekah G. (Reader) Portland, OR
I'm happy with these two. They'll be great!
Thomas S. (Reader) West Jordan, UT
Reelz Channel also took things a step further and compared the studio's choices against the fan favorites.
With the fifth character cast for the upcoming movie adaptation of The Hunger Games, we thought it was a good time to start comparing the studio's choices to the fans' choices. We are facing-off the actual cast picks and the top picks from our Hunger Games Cast-O-Rama. Although we have no choice but to accept director Gary Ross' casting choices, we believe the continued conversation will provide satisfaction (or high blood pressure).
Putting together the casting face-off, we wondered if the order of the casting news was intentional by Lionsgate. The Hob has assured us this is not the case. They asked Lionsgate “if the Tributes would be announced in pairs and in descending order” and were told “they won't be in any specific order.”
Make sure you read the full article regarding the Hunger Games Casting Face-Off to see the side-by-side comparison of those who the fans wanted and those who were officially cast.

  1. Good books make you cry and that's exactly what i did when Rue died, but seeing a little girl like Amandla as Rue dying while rereading for the like 109th time it makes you really sad. But good books like all good movies do have sad stories and do make you cry.
